Biography
Garrett Griggs brings to WLG a wealth of litigation experience and extensive knowledge of municipal law gained from a career dedicated to public service. He devotes most of his practice to defending government entities and law enforcement against civil rights claims brought under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, as well as state tort claims and road design litigation.
Garrett began his legal career as a municipal prosecutor, where he developed a specialty in serious injury/death collision cases and child dependency cases. In 2017, Garrett was recognized with the MADD DUI Prosecutor Of The Year award for his fervent trial work.
Garrett transitioned to a citywide litigation role where he gained state and federal court hearing, jury trial, and appellate experience including for cases involving K-9 deployment, medical intervention, TASER deployment, and execution of warrants. As a public safety legal advisor, Garrett’s practice focused on multi-agency projects involving First Amendment rights at protests, development of automated crime victim rights notifications, machine gun conversion device legislation, petitions for involuntary hospitalizations, storage and control of CSAM evidence, export of controlled goods and the EAR, and shipment and destruction of controlled drugs. Garrett gained a depth of experience as primary counsel for public records subpoena productions and litigation.
During law school Garrett earned Pro Bono Community Service recognition for volunteering over 500 hours with local youth. Garrett is a licensed Emergency Medical Technician and volunteers in a search and rescue role within Maricopa County. Committed to community and family, Garrett engages in efforts and events that help craft new opportunities for all.
